Racing Santander is locked in tense negotiations with Barcelona over the €16m-rated left-back Jorge Salinas, according to Mundo Deportivo. The newly-promoted Cantabrian outfit is demanding Salinas' full €16 million release clause, or a figure very close to it, for their franchise player. Conversely, Barca refuse to make financial gambles, capping their maximum valuation for the teenager at €6 million. While Barca attempted to lower the cash fee by offering youth academy players, Racing insist on a primary cash payment. Salinas, who recently won the U19 European Championship with Spain, has expressed his desire to move to the Camp Nou but will not force a hostile exit. Barca's rivals Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the situation. In the current season, Racing Santander has scored 90 goals and conceded 61, with a +29 goal difference. They are 5 points clear of Deportivo La Coruna at the top of the Segunda División.
