Racing Santander Prepares for La Liga with an Intense Preseason

Since April 2012, when they were relegated to the Segunda División B after losing at Anoeta, Racing Santander has been undergoing a rigorous process to return to La Liga. The club had to overcome various obstacles, including ascensions and descents, promotions, financial crises, and now an intense preseason.

Preseason and Friendly Matches

Preseason officially began on July 13th, followed by two friendly matches: a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad and a loss of 2-0 to Osasuna. Their next match is against Athletic Club in Laredo at 7 p.m., their third friendlies.

New Players and Familiar Faces

But it's not just about the friendly matches for Racing. The team has already welcomed back Manex Lozano on a season-long loan, as well as midfielder Peio Canales returning after a previous stint with Lezama. Canales proved essential in last year’s ascension to La Liga. Iñigo Vicente also had a breakout third season with Racing, assisting around 20 goals and scoring nine.

More Player Inclusions

The transfer window closes on September 1st, but the sports department is optimistic about at least eight new signings. So far, only Sergio Canales has officially joined since his return to the club.

Fan Support and New Memberships

Moreover, Racing is receiving a boost from fan support as they prepare for their comeback. New memberships were opened just yesterday, offering 375 more seats in the Estadio El Sardinero. Fans lined up long queues and some even camped for three days to secure their places.
